Business alarms

Plan intrusion detection around opening and closing.

Review entry points, restricted areas, and the people responsible for arming and disarming. Compare sensor placement with delivery schedules, cleaners, and normal staff movement.

Document who should receive alerts and what the business expects that person to do.

Decide these before comparing panels

  • Entry points and restricted areasFront of house, staff entrance, stockroom, server closet and roof or yard access.
  • Who arms and disarmsNamed users with their own codes, including cleaners and contractors, and how access is removed.
  • Who responds to an alertThe person called at 2am, what they are expected to do, and the fallback if they do not answer.
  • Communication pathsPrimary and backup signalling, and what the system does when both are unavailable.
In practice

Write down the difference between an app alert and monitoring.

Ask for a written distinction between app notifications, local alarm behavior, and any professional monitoring arrangement. Confirm backup communication, account permissions, training, service responsibilities, and applicable requirements with the proposed provider.

Monitoring availability and terms must be confirmed; an inquiry does not activate a service. Nobody on this site will quote a response time or promise a police dispatch.

Local permit rules and false-alarm requirements vary by jurisdiction and should be checked for the premises before a system is put into service.

Questions

Questions worth asking

How are staff codes managed when someone leaves?

Ask to see the user-management screen during a demonstration. Shared codes make departures and audits difficult; named users make them routine.

What is on the arming schedule during deliveries?

Walk a normal week — including early deliveries and late cleaning — against the proposed sensor layout and schedules.

Planning information and consultation requests. Installation and monitoring availability, provider details, and service terms must be confirmed before work is arranged. This form is not for emergencies.
